JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: School Volunteer
SUPERVISOR: Building/Department Administrator
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:
School Volunteers support students, teachers, and school operations by assisting with instructional, supervisory, clerical, and extracurricular activities under the direct supervision of school staff. Volunteers serve as positive role models while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, confidentiality, and student safety.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Volunteers may assist with the following duties as assigned:

Supporting teachers in classrooms with small groups or individual students
-
Assisting with supervision during lunch, recess, arrival, dismissal, or special events
-
Helping with clerical tasks, preparation of materials, and organization
-
Supporting school programs, field trips, and extracurricular activities
-
Assisting with library, tutoring, mentoring, or enrichment activities
-
Supporting school-sponsored activities and events
Volunteers must always work under the direct supervision of a school employee and may not replace assigned staff duties.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must pass required background check
- Ability to follow school policies and directions
- Ability to interact positively with students and staff
- Reliable, punctual, and professional
- Commitment to student safety and ethical conduct
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 30 pounds) reaching, squatting, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be requried.
SAFETY AND HEALTH:
- Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions.
- Knowledge of school safety procedures (fire drills, lockdowns, severe weather, etc.)
- General knowledge of first aid procedures.
EQUIPMENT/MATERIAL HANDLED:
- Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multi-media equipment including current technology.
- Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all equipment necessary for student success.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. After hour work may be required. May make site or home visits when needed and appropriate. Work surfaces will vary from concrete to grass to hard wood floors.
PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT & ETHICAL EXPECTATIONS
All volunteers must maintain clear professional boundaries and follow district conduct standards at all times. Volunteers are expected to:

Act in a respectful, professional, and ethical manner

Avoid any form of exploitation, undue influence, or favoritism toward students

Never give gifts, money, or personal items to students
-
Avoid all inappropriate physical contact with students
-
Never engage in sexual comments, jokes, innuendos, or inappropriate content
-
Never meet with students alone behind closed or covered doors
-
Never remain on campus with students after school unless part of an approved school-sponsored activity
-
Never transport students in personal vehicles
-
Never exchange personal phone numbers, emails, or social media with students
-
Never communicate privately with students through personal social media
-
Never discuss personal matters with students outside of safety-related concerns
MANDATORY REPORTING REQUIREMENTS
Volunteers are required to:
- Immediately report suspected child abuse or neglect to school administration
-
Immediately report suspected staff or volunteer misconduct
-
Never retaliate against anyone who reports concerns in good faith
-
Cooperate fully with any district investigation
-
Understand that failure to report may result in removal from volunteering and possible legal consequences
